Marathon Obsessing

We have arrived...Its marathon weekend. Its something I've looked forward too all summer. The training, the not training, the thought of never running again, the running again, the honor and privileged to be able to downgrade to the half, the sadness of not running with my two favorite partners, the happiness that they can still be together. The panic when Julie says she wont be able to go, the sadness of all her training being wasted. the joy of having Phil run with me again. Its been a process of up and down emotions.

Since none of us were able to run a marathon this year, we are eager to sign up for another. After obsessing over the perfect marathon to sign up for, I have made the decision…Its so exciting huh?

I was debating, for exactly a month, between the Rock n Roll D.C Marathon,

Rock 'N' Roll Washington D.C. Marathon & 1/2 Marathon | rdsdc2012

annnd the Ocean Dr. Marathon in New Jersey.

Both are in March, which is great timing for me to hit the 4hr marathon mark, rest and then train for the 3:40 mark in the early fall… sounds ambitious huh? 3:40 is my Boston qualifying time and I'm going to get it!

I read a couple blogs outlining other runners experiences with these two races. I learned pretty quickly to steer away from the New Jersey one, since it’s right on the ocean and there’s a decent head wind that would not be good for my time goals. I’ll keep that in mind for a future fun run (Yup, I called a marathon a fun run, I’ve definitely become crazy). So the Rock n Roll marathon in D.C. it is.

So I ask Phil to sign me up for it as we were driving to an out of town wedding last weekend but for some reason he couldn’t complete the transaction. If you’ve been following right along than you know how I choose to procrastinate, right? A week has gone by and I still haven’t registered.

Thursday mornings are set aside for Julie and I to catch up. She works the night shift every Wed-Fri so we don’t see each other as much as we would like. As we were talking about her in ability to run the upcoming Niagara falls marathon this weekend she mentioned the Burlington one, Vermont City Marathon in May. My first response was no, I think this one is too late in the spring to accomplish my goals. I went home that night and looked into it, I'd rather run with my friend than run alone. Having good company is worth postponing my training for a couple months. The date is perfect-it's Memorial weekend and the girls don't have school the following Monday so we have an extra day to explore VT. Then I read a blog review of the race...This sealed the deal!!
